Carole was as lovely on the inside as she was on the outside. Her marriage to Clark Gable was one of the most idyllic in Hollywood. Tragically killed, along with her mother, on the flight back from a war bonds tour.

Carole's career in the 1930s started with the usual overheated pre-code dramas like "Sinners in the Sun," "White Woman," and "Bolero." Her breakout comedy performance was in 1934s "Twentieth Century." She played Hollywood star Lily Garland and in this promo photo she's wearing a stunning ballgown that makes her look like a princess.
